Ghent is a city and a municipality located in the Flemish region of Belgium. It is the capital and biggest city of the East Flanders province. With 240,191 inhabitants in the beginning of 2009, Ghent is Belgium's second largest municipality by number of inhabitants.
The City Gent spared by the replacement of 159 vans and the introduction of Euro V trucks up to 43,000 liters of fuel per year. Other municipalities have followed this example i.e. Kasterlee, Ronse and Burlington.

Status Quo
Hasselt is a Belgian city and municipality, and capital of the Flemish province of Limburg. On December, 2007 Hasselt had a total population of 71,520.
Since January 2004 one public transport bus in Hasselt is driving on PPO (Pure Plant Oil). Bus-company De Lijn started this pilot to test the maintenance and operational characteristics, the effects on the life span of the engine and the feasibility to use PPO in public transport buses. The results: in twenty month no technical problems. Therefore in 2006 20 buses more was converted to drive on PPO and in 2007 another 50 buses.
