The Lifetime Costs Calculator within this portal is designed to calculate the operational lifetime costs of a vehicle according to the methodology defined in the Clean and Energy Efficient Vehicles Directive.
The lifetime costs for energy consumption, CO2 emissions and pollutant emissions are monetised and calculated by multiplying the lifetime mileage by the corresponding value of energy consumption or emission per kilometre and by the respective cost per unit of energy or emission. Several options are included in the tool enabling the user to select the type of vehicle and to enter or choose different values from a list.
The serach-engine and calculator allows you to quickly and easily search for different vehicles, calculate the total lifetime cost of the vehicle in question, which simplifies the implementation of the directive and compare and store the results. All vehicle-based information like emission- and pollutant-facts are held within the database. You just have to choose your individual lifetime-mileage and, if you deserve, your individual price of the vehicle.
The calculator enables convenient comparison of the performance of vehicles under the categories energy consumption, CO2 emissions, NOx emissions, NMHC emissions which together make up the total operational costs. It also enables comparison on the basis of total lifetime costs plus the initial capital cost of vehicle. This will allow the user to consider the energy consumption and environmental impact of vehicles and to make informed decisions and comparisons. The calculator highlights the relative strengths and weaknesses between different vehicles. It can also be used by persons / organisations not subject to the Directive and therefore have a wider influence on purchasing behaviour.
